Montreal, September 11, 2023 – A sense of generosity and enthusiasm permeated the 10th anniversary of the Centraide Cup, a charity soccer tournament presented by BMO Financial Group and held on September 9 and 10. Over 500 employees from over twenty companies came to play on the fields of CF Montréal and raised $381,000 for Centraide of Greater Montreal and the Montreal Impact Foundation.
Everyone who participated came together to support agencies and projects that are essential to prevent school dropouts, promote active lifestyles, and improve the quality of life of young people and their families.
“Setting foot on the field at Stade Saputo is such a unique and worthwhile experience for the employees of the organizations that support us. This event is even more important for the community, as it shows how people can join forces for an inclusive, poverty-free Greater Montreal. We sincerely thank everyone who took part in this initiative. Because of their invaluable help, we can give young people an excellent start in life and foster their social and educational development while providing significant support to their families,” said Claude Pinard, President and Executive Director, Centraide of Greater Montreal.
“Reiterating our engagement in this unifying event for a 10th year is a source of pride for our foundation. Proceeds from this event will have a tangible impact on the improvement of the districts” quality of life, social integration and the promotion of physical activity for kids. By lending a helping hand, we help moulding their path to success. Together, we make a difference for our youth in the community,” said Véronique Fortin, Executive Director, Montreal Impact Foundation.
This year, the team from Desjardins Group took top honours in the tournament’s Competitive category, while the Recreational category was won by the team from McCarthy Tétrault LLP. These teams competed against motivated opponents from BMO, Bombardier, Borden Ladner Gervais, CAE, Deloitte, Fonds de Solidarité FTQ, Hydro-Québec, iA Financial Group, IKEA Montréal, McKesson Canada, Metro, National Bank of Canada, Pharmascience, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Saputo, Scotiabank, SSENSE, Sun Life and Ville de Montréal.
In a tradition that recognizes players who demonstrate exemplary conduct, the Fair Play Award went to the team from Fonds de Solidarité FTQ that played in the recreational category.
The event was made possible thanks to essential support from partners such as the Stade Saputo, BMO Financial Group, Saputo and Metro. For the past 10 years, the Centraide Cup has raised over $3 million to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people in Greater Montreal.
